CCC Camp 2007 - more than 1500 Hackers in the great outdoors

Release Date: June 18 2007

More than a thousand hackers, artists and similar life forms from all over the world will converge north of Berlin from August 8th through the 12th to take part in the Chaos Computer Club's third Chaos Communication Camp. The all-day, all-night open-air event will host over a hundred lectures and workshops, computer-created art and beauty of all kinds and many eclectic surprises--including a transcontinental charter airplane hacker invasion!

After successful events in 1999 and 2003, the latest installment of the Chaos Computer Club's "open air event for hackers and similar life forms" shall take place on the grounds near the Luftfahrtmuseum Finowfurt (air flight museum) near Berlin. The former Soviet air force base serves as a unique stage for the discussion of technical-creative ideas for the world of today and tomorrow.

Soviet-era aircraft-hangars will house two lecture tracks and various workshops on topics like soldering, electronic music and the construction of flying objects. Roughly thirty themed villages will give participants the opportunity to camp near hackers of kindred spirit, facilitating casual experiences and cultural exchange around the clock. The 100 to 150 euro ticket price covers all this, the perfect five-day hacker vacation.

The camp will also feature powerful technical infrastructure, leaving nothing to be desired. Electricity and internet access is available for every tent on site, as well as showers and lavatory facilities and a lake for swimming! Multiple concession stands will keep hackers well fed, and three bars and lounges will ensure plenty of opportunities for relaxation. As with previous events, the camp will once again build the world's largest open-air network for non-military purposes!

Following a suggestion from the CCC, members of US-based Hacker Foundation have put together the first "transcontinental hacker conference". Known as "Hackers on a Plane", a group of 40 hackers from the US and Canada will be arriving at the camp less than 24 hours after the end of DefCon, the largest and longest running hacker conference in the USA. HoAP participants, as they are known, will be flying directly to Dusseldorf from Las Vegas, then boarding a chartered aircraft to landi right on the runway adjacent to the camp! More information on this historic hacker voyage can be found on the website hackersonaplane.info.
