News
The plan was to have all videos available in at least 24h via FTP and Bittorrent, but because of the problems of day 1, it last a little bit longer.
The first videos are now available via FTP and Mirrors. Next Videos coming soon.
- Please have a look on the Conference Recordings Page too.

Unofficial
Torrent Streamdumps
http://rnmshot.dvrdns.org/ (available outside the congress network + internal @ 26c3)
- An incomplete, but still useful tracker for anyone who missed a talk and doesn't want to wait for the official torrent dumps.
- Unofficial torrent streamdumps of talks from day 1,2,3 should not be seeded anymore. Please head to ftp://ftp.ccc.de/congress/26C3/ for official torrent links.
HTTP/FTP/NFS Streamdumps
- for those who want to check something out sooner uC3 is trying to make streamdumps available earlier. But please remember: they are ugly uncut raw dumps, nothing worth keeping after 26C3. Download the official recordings for that which should become available any moment..
UPDATE: we now rsync to the NetApp Filer at 81.163.130.102:/vol/fast/Streamdumps/uC3/ - you can mount it by nfs and directly mplayer the files without downloading them completely... It's supposed to also have ftp but that never worked...
FOR EXTERNAL USERS (Dragons Everywhere!) we have a mirror at http://x0.mk.tu-berlin.de/Streamdumps/uC3/wmv/ - it was promised to have 1GBit and enough CPU to handle all the Dragons out there... some streamdumps could be found here, still syncing from the NetApp.... http://mirror.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/pub/ccc/26C3-uc3-streamdump/
The first files are also at ftp://81.163.130.44/incoming/streamdumps-uc3 (internal @ 26c3 only). Unfortunately ftp uploading is quite unreliable and we can't re-upload. If you have a big ftp server (capable of taking the user load, so no "limited to 10 users.." ee-PCs) IN THE 26C3 Network (we already have an external mirror now) and would add an ssh user (for rsync) for us, please contact me at stream@y.nu for the public key. We will then push our streamdumps by rsync to your server.
HTTP Streamdumps
http://esyr.org/video/ccc/ ---- semi-automated dumping os WMV streams.
H264 Streamdumps / Encodes
http://26c3.ipv6only.org/encodes/, rsync://26c3.ipv6only.org/26c3 (ipv6 only)
- Update: the last round (finale) of [3669] Hacker Jeopardy is unwatchable broken
- Update: rsync fixed, you can now do something like (note -L):
rsync -avPhL rsync://26c3.ipv6only.org:'/26c3/encodes/[3654] GSM:SRSLY?' .
- Note: these are unofficial uncut h264 encodes. the encodes start 15 minutes before the event and stop 20 minutes after the event.
- the note regarding the uC3 streamdumps applies here as well: "they are ugly uncut raw dumps, nothing worth keeping after 26C3"
- the process is completely automated and encodes currently show up ~
18090-120 minutes after the event - if you can't resolve 26c3.ipv6only.org: you need a resolver capable of resolving over ipv6, there are no ipv4 nameservers.
- why: because I was bored
- Is that site available from outside? - Having Problems with freenet6 tunneling
- yes the site is outside and open from everywhere. try if you can resolve it, e.g. dig -t AAAA 26c3.ipv6only.org
- Is that site available from outside? - Having Problems with freenet6 tunneling
I was going to suggest http://ipv4gate.sixxs.net/ as I noticed in the access-logs that some people were using it. It worked the first time but now it says "SixXS IPv4Gate: 404 Could not gateway IPv4->IPv6: Couldn't resolve host"
Multicast
The local videostreams of the three rooms are currently being rebroadcast (as avc/mp3) via multicast - locally, i.e. in 81.163.0.0/16 only. They are announced by sap (so e.g. if you run "vlc -S sap" you can find them in your sap-announcements playlist), or at:
- rtp://239.255.12.42:5004 for Saal1
- rtp://239.255.12.43:5004 for Saal2
- rtp://239.255.12.44:5004 for Saal3
(if you want to play them with vlc, add an '@' after the '//', i.e. "vlc rtp://@239.255.12.42:5004")
Trouble?
To hear the mono sound on both earplugs use
- mplayer -af extrastereo=0 mms://streaming-26c3-wmv.fem-net.de/saal{1..3}
- (Linux only) Or route audio from each PCM channel to all output channels using ~/.asoundrc
~ $ cat > ~/.asoundrc
pcm.monodup {
type route
slave.pcm default
slave.channels 2
ttable.0.0 1
ttable.0.1 1
ttable.1.0 1
ttable.1.1 1
}
^D
~ $ mplayer -ao alsa:device=monodup $STREAM_URL
Best results are reported with mplayer:
- mplayer -cache 8000 mms://streaming-26c3-wmv.fem-net.de/saal{1..3}
Low bitrate streams with mplayer:
- mplayer -cache 8000 -bandwidth 700000 mms://streaming-26c3-wmv.fem-net.de/saal{1..3}
Please remember to use the caching option of your favorite video software to avoid dropouts.
- The playlist can be used with:
- mplayer -cache 8000 -playlist <downloaded playlist file>
- You can play around a bit with the cache, depending on your network quality.

Known problems
Day 1
We are currently working on the bad availability of the internal streams. It is neither overload of any server nor network/bandwidth overload. We are doing some major changes in the long break around 7pm and see what happens.
- The Bitrate can be lowered by appending the -bandwidth 700000 option to the mplayer command line
Saal 2 has a blue picture without any audio.
- If there is only blue video and no audio, it is possible that the lecture isn't streamed and recorded on request of the speaker(s). Sometimes we get to know such wishes only a few minutes before the lecture starts and can't switch to a placeholder slide or something.
Can you please show the slides more often (instead of the speakers)? This would help the dragons everywhere a lot to follow the talks.
- We will brief the video-angels in this fact, but finally it's their decision how long they show the slides on screen.
Day 2
The low-bandwidth-streams show no video at all. (cmdline: "mplayer -cache 8000 -bandwidth 700000 http://81.163.138.49/saal1" @12:40)
- At the moment we don't provide low-bandwidth-streams. That's why you only get audio with your options. We reduced the bandwith of all streams to round about 1.2Mbit/s to guarantee the availibilty. Maybe we start an Attempt with different bandwiths after one of the larger breaks.
Day 3
There is currently (11:30) no signal on Saal 3. We don't have physical access to the server room and the connections need to be rerouted from the setup for the hacker jeopardy to the normal setup... :-(
It would be really great if you could provide "official" low bandwidth streams, as some people only have 1 mbit DSL connections (or worse). The mirrors providing those are not as reliable as one would wish (thanks for your effort though!).
- We're sorry. In order to guarantee a stable streaming for so much users, we decided not to provide another low bandwidth stream. Please use the here announced (maybe unreliable) low bandwidth streams.
The current lecture in Saal 2 ("Kunstfreiheit statt Hackerparagraph") is neither streamed nor recorded on request of the speaker.
-
könnt ihr statt dem blau denn kein "this revolution will not be televised" senden?
- Normalerweise schon, aber wir erfahren das diesmal komischerweise immer erst kurz vor Beginn des Vortrags. Und das ist leider zu kurzfristig, da is die WM-Software nich flexibel genug. (Somebody asked for changing the blue screen into an announcement, that the lecture is not wished to stream. We answered, that there was insufficient time before the lecture - once again - to organize such a pause-slide.)
From about 2pm on, there is no ("native") theora stream due to a hardware failure - our video matrix switch is melting away...
-
Those streams seem to be up again
- Only room 1 was quite stable, so we announced it not yet. We think the theora stream will be available again on tomorrow.
Day 4
The lecture in room 3 now ("The IBM AS/400") is cancelled in cause of technical problems. There will be another lecture about Distributed Scanning ("Wolpertinger - Eine Einführung") in german now.
Contact
Are the streams not working? Then please check on these things:
- Are there any lectures right now? Check the schedule
- Is the (internal) network up and running? (TODO: where to check for that?)
- Is there no data from the streams?
FeM
If there actually are lectures happening, the network is up and there is yet no data - only then call the video studio at DECT:1160, +49-461-5056623-1160 or sip://1160@26c3.eventphone.de from outside.
Please be aware that this is not a support hotline.
