Plunger

Youtube? Geek2Geek? Twitter??? Forget it!

Plunger is the ultimate Video/Social/Short Message/Dating site. And it's only available during the Congress! The projects goal is to test the (current) limits of my Maplat Webframework as well as provide useful services to all visitors.

One single login will get you (at least) the following services: Flash videos with commets like on YouTube, too short messages like on Twitter and Online dating like on Geek2Geek. Depending on available spare time, i like to add Image galleries and user requested features.

Feature specific as well as full site full text search will be available.

Motivation

Services like YouTube, Twitter and Geek2Geek work fine. But: They are all independent.

Really, how much different user accounts do you need? Why do you have to input data about yourself over and over and over again?

Wanna find i girl, flirt with her and propose to her with a public video? Using three sites? Just use Plunger!

Is it open source?

Well, the Maplat Framework is. Plunger itself: not yet. Let me get it working first, then i'll make a release.

What happens after 26c3?

That depends. It will most likely not go publicly online due to financial and legal reasons (i don't have the kind of resources to run a site like this).

But plunger will be available at Chemnitzer Linuxtage 2010, as well as the next Congress.

Limited server resources

The Server is my old office workstation, it will have a 1GB Ethernet and ~400GB disk space for flash content. If the server gets full, there are two options: I disable uploads or someone donates a useable SATA disk.

While the server is reasonably fast, it'll probably wont be fast enough at converting videos if the server is heavily used - if you have spare processor resources, contact me and we'll see about setting up your computer as additional video converter. In return, you will be able to mirror the complete server content for home pleasure viewing.
