You asked me to tell you about the Problems, so here they are. Please forward these to the Archangels & Orga team, I guess you are the ony one reading the wiki.

Things that were NOT fixed since 23C3

These were already mentioned in the 23C3 feedback, though maybe not in exact the same way. Among those are:

• More Power outlets in the Lecture Rooms.(esp. those except Saal 1, which has Tables in the back area. For those I think, they consume too much space. You can use your Laptop on your knees,if you really need to during the lecture.)
  • More power in the lectures rooms brings us to the point that people use it as a hackcenter and not for the lectures. If you look at the feedback you see already people complaining about hearing the waiting music for several hours. I guess that's not because of the point that they where waiting at the frontrow for the next talk...
• No Picturetakeing before asking. Simply writing "No Photos" is not enough, just as "Don't turn off our TV's" was not enough for MediaMarkt.
  • Taking away camera's does work but I don't want to make it my job. At the congress I received 0 complaints about someone taking a picture and 0 phone calls regarding this issue so I guess you (the visitors) are wise enough fix this problem yourself. I don't saw any reason at the congress to change the current behaviour. And please don't compare the congress with mediamarkt.
• More Coordination, like radios(funkgeräte) or Dect groups between Audio Video Angels as with Heralds. As I once had the phone numbers of the other Camera Angels during one lecture, I could perfectly call them and tell them what to do. But I had to call them each time and wait for them to pickup.
  • Known problem with phones, you have to wait. There are professional communication systems for videocrews (like the ones we used at WTH, maybe ambion has them).
• Overcrowded Lectures, especially with one less Lecture hall, the others were even more crowded. This was a problem last year already.
  • will always be a problem since having a hall for 3000 people is not big enough for some lectures but for the most it's too large.
• Cheap drinks. Still there were no cheap drinks. 2 euros +50cents of refund for -one- bottle of mate ... OHA! And then we are not allowed to bring in food & drink. No outside Food is OK. You can go out eat and come bak but you simply can't go out every hour to drink a bottle and come back.
  • They didn't increase the price and next time: social engineer yourself some free mate somewhere.
• Cutting the Price by getting Sponsoring. I have no Problem seeing some Banners with company names when I get in for 40 Euros; instead of getting in for 80 , and still being nagged by TV-B-Gone and Apple Fanboys. ( In fact, TV-B-Gone was so present, did you get money from them? You should! The hardware they sell is worth 5 Euros, they sell that device for 25.)
  • Apple fanboys? You mean apple users? Nice but I'd like to complain about all those IBM logo's too (hence IBM are my initials). And still the congress was being sponsored by some big companies. If they didn't sponsor it would be MUCH more expensive.
    • No I don't mean the users. I mean the fanboys. Why was there this funny talk about the OSX kernel, which really seemed to be memorized by someone having no idea of what she talks about? Why did the network guy on the closing event tell that OSX had a share of somewhat percent, then almost everybody .applauded Leaving out any other sys ? Most of the people on the congress are Apple fixated. "If it's Apple it's good" or what ? Why don't the people in the Hackcenter -that were talked about on Security nightmares- release their many many virii/trojans/whatever for OSX ? Why is the first example of a scanned device on that "Advanced Port Scanning" Lecture an iPhone ? Why did the Moderator of Lightning talks on Day4(that was way too long btw) insist on using his Mac although it could not read several USB-sticks of the talkers ? Sorry, but when this all cumulates up, it could as well be an Apple fan event. Apple Yeah!, Linux mKay, MS boo!.. That's the general felling you get after the congress.
      • The network guy tried to deliver some nice statistics and not only numbers about data I guess, the applaus? That's what closing is about.
      • The iPhone? Ask FX propably because someone tried to show an iPhone to him and he likes to hack stuff.
      • I didn't watch Lucy's talk right now, but what's the problem, there were xbox/wii talks too.
        • It's not that she talked about the MacOSX kernel. It's how she did it. I'm not the only one that thinks it might have been an Apple Commercial.Chippy 14:16, 4 January 2008 (CET)
      • Why the LT on day4 went so bad? And wouldn't he have the same problems with a windows laptop?
        • I never said that windows is good (although I'm using it right now)... It was so bad because the audience ran away after the first hour or so.Chippy 14:16, 4 January 2008 (CET)
      • I get the feeling that you maybe should volunteer to pick the subjects next time or help in another way. But that's what I generally think: the congress was great and for what was wrong: be creative and (help) fix it next time. BugBlue (Using SuSE 10.3 on his powerbook G4)
    • wait a minute: the congress was NOT sponsored by Apple ?!?! You mean, all those idiots bought a macbook pro by themselves !???! HA HA HA HA HA
• Solid crimped wristbands were annoying. Just as they were last year.
  • They work very nice, people don't 'loose' them and if they are really annoying maybe you can convince the people at the entrance to put them on your keychain or whatever else. Be a bit more creative.
    • I actually got it crimped to my Angel Tag/Card on the first entrance with it. (just after I bought it) I got in free for the first 3 times somehow. The second time I tried to get in with the wristband on the Card I had a Discussion with the Angels at the entrance, why I wouldn't like it crimped on my arm. To avoid further discussion; on the next entrances I put the card in the arm of my sweatshirt, only showing the band from the side. There should be clearer rules for the controllers at the entrance. Like: do not discuss everytime where it is crimped to, if it's already crimped, wave them through. Besides: I don't like the idea beeing marked by a fixed wristband just because the "Finanzamt" likes it better that way. At least that was the official reason last year as of why they were introduced.

Things that are new

This was obviously not meant to be so but it still did happen :

• No stickers. Still don't know what went wrong.
  • The German Post and the Orga screwed this one up.

Not exactly new but new additional stuff :

• Better Marking of the Talks. Not just some Hacking / Society / Politics , but also for Noobs / Advanced / for Cracks. What I would Even like more would be to tell if it is an Entertainment Talk, or a Serious one. I got confused by the Topic and Title too often.
  • I guess maha and some others will read it, since I don't really follow lectures (ENOTIME) I don't have an opinion about it
• Showing the Number of the Caller on the DECT phone. Ok nice I can see the name of the Person, but I can't call them back when I only see the name, without the number !
  • Your DECT is too nice, buy a cheaper one. Seriously: the cheaper dects only show a number and maybe a name from the internal phonebook. Or: become someone who needs a system telephone and you have a phone in your hand with builtin network phonebook.

Was a problem last year too, but was not mentioned, since the recordings were released waaay to late:

• The Recorded videos are still beeing sqeezed to 640x480(VGA) altough they were recorded with 720x576(PAL). Since they scale it down (not cut it out) quality is lost. I know I'm nagging about this, but I think it is important.
  • I'm not sure if they where recored with PAL since the camera's in the BCC are capable of HD (1080i) but hey the comment and the discussion about this is already on the videopage and fefe's blog.
    • I was behind many Cameras, only those in Saal 1 were capable of HD recording, but that feature was not used. I'll try to get an answer to that one on the mentioned places.

Other

As an Angel, or helper, I didn't like that:

• I was asked if I have time to take an assignment, each time I entered the crew area, searching for rest, after a couple of hours standing behind a Camera. Although there were others sitting behind their Laptops, or even chatting around, obviously doing nothing important. -DO Load Balancing !
  • One part of load balancing is that they ask everybody who comes in every time if they want to do something (you can say no) else the 20 people who used the crew area as hackcenter too are doing all the work every time. When I look at the angel system I see most people where subscribed for something between 6 and 16 hours during the congress. Some (like you) did more hours, but that shouldn't be needed.
• I had to pay the full Price. Well you explained why already during the congress, I still don't like the idea. I don't really like the crewcatering, and I don't need entrance to the sleeping hall, due to I live in Berlin. So, my only benefit from beeing an Angel is free Bottled Water and a T-Shirt. I hve the feeling that it is too less.
  • Yes I already explained it and my opinion stays the same (yes I paid too, I had a hotel room nearby (with DECT coverage from the congress): If we let angels in for free we get the people who don't want to pay and not the people who like to volunteer.
  • Hey, you forgot meeting so many nice people and the really great feeling of doing something good. :) I would like a t-shirt that really shows that you helped and badges that actually have Engel/Angel written on it and not Crew... Ewww, i really didn't like those "Crew"-Badges.. But still, helping almost 24/4 was fun. Maybe I should have entered all my shifts to the system to make ppl worry about my health next time. :) Knuff
    • Hey at least these badges didn't separate themself after a while like the camp badges (bad stuff). But I will take your notes. (And don't put all the time you worked in the angel system, you will a ban on work from the CERT team :D) BugBlue
