GPN13: Call for participation

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

Eure Eve Entropia

Large Hackerspace Convention IV (#LHC4)

Saturday, March 30th, 2013

Hackerspaces of the world.
Get ready for another collision at the

Large Hackerspace Convention IV (#LHC4)

in the RaumZeitLabor Mannheim Germany on the

13th and 14th of April 2013

Join us for another meet-up about our world, the world of hackerspaces,
including our problems, our solutions, our projects, our structures, our
chaos, our members, our publicity and everything in and around the
hackerspaces movement.

This time, we return the LHC to its birth place in Mannheim.
We invite all hackerspaces to come to Mannheim and have a great time
with us, debating the status quo as well as the future of hackerspaces.
During the two days, we plan to have a barcamp-esque lecture program, to
be defined by the attendees.

If you already know that you would like to talk about a topic, please
send in your idea to info (ät) raumzeitlabor.de

The topics we want to put a focus on this year are:

*Laser cutters*
lots of hackerspace have acquired or built a laser cutter by now.
We want to share best practises, lessons learned, ideas,
differences between models, HOWTOs to prepare designs for cutting, etc.

*3D printing*
Even longer than the laser cutter trend, the plastic extrusion 3D
printers have invaded hackerspaces and help up make Bits tangible.
We want to share best practises, lessons learned, ideas, differences
between models, HOWTOs to prepare designs for printing, other methods
than hot extrusion, etc.

*Textile design*
RaumZeitLabor is not the only hackerspace that took a deep dive in
T-shirt and textile design and printing.
We want to explore techniques (foil, silk screen …), design ideas and
best practises. We will make our new cutting plotter available to you
for your own designs (can also cut vinyl foil for laptop stickers!)

*Organisation*
The ususal. A hackerspace needs to organise its chaos a bit in order to
really work. Or does it?
We want to share rule sets, lessons learned and general opinions about
this topic. What works, what doesn’t in your space?

*Can haz Moneyz pls?*
Financing the niceties that make a hackerspace comfy, starting with the
space itself, is the biggest task of a hackerspace to stay sustainable.
We want to share concepts for funding, sponsoring pro/contra, membership
fees, food and drink prices/revenues, etc.

The event – as most hackerspace events – is highly self-organized and
dependent on volunteers. Please consider showing up on Friday and giving
us a hand, setting everything up. And please consider giving a lecture
or workshop for any of the focus topic or any other topic you think the
community will find interesting.

All infos will be gathered at

http://lhc.raumzeitlabor.de

(and yes that’s a wiki page so feel free to contribute)
We’d love to see you in April in Mannheim!

[please forward this invitation to other hackerspaces]

SIGINT 2013: Call for Participation

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

July 5th-7th, KOMED im Mediapark, Cologne, Germany

SIGINT13

sigint.ccc.de/cfp

SIGINT is an annual hacker conference organized by the Chaos Computer Club. It features talks covering both technical and social aspects of our digital society.

VOLUNTEERS For SIGINT to be as great as always, we need your help. First and foremost, we need eager volunteers to help on-site with the intricate details of organizing a conference for hundreds of people. Please register as a volunteer as soon as we have the registration online.

ARTS AND PROJECTS Asides from helping us having everything run smoothly, we’d gladly accept any kind of project that can be built upon our conference infrastructure. Do you have a cool project you want to show off? Great! You’re just dying to have a venue to try out your fancy new art installation? Cool! Drop us a line at sigint-content(at)koeln.ccc.de and we’ll see if we can sort it out.

TALKS As a community-organized conference, we want to offer you the best lectures you can get. For this, we need your talk submissions—we’re offering one-hour slots (including Q&A), and your talk will be recorded and put online after the conference. Unless you opt out, of course.

If you think you have a great talk that other hackers should listen to, great! Just submit it at our talk submission site!

In case you’re undecided on whether your talk is appropriate, here’s a list of things we are interested in:
Anything that is related to these topics or close enough is welcome too!

  • Signals intelligence and surveillance techniques, e.g. digital wiretapping, deep packet inspection, etc.
  • Mobile device hacking and telecommunications security and exploiting weaknesses in mobile app ecosystems
  • Network neutrality, i.e. the ownership, censorship, circumvention and the politics of de facto standards
  • Programming languages, the state of the art and research as well as interesting new or old applications
  • Privacy in the age of big data, ensuring it via policy or technical means, ethical considerations, etc.
  • (Post-)Privacy, conflict between the desires of an individual and the public regarding social networks and public spaces
  • Alternative worlds, communities in the deep web, augmented reality, hackerspaces and other environments
  • Storming the clouds, hacking, breaking, exploiting and securing cloud-based computing and storage ideas
  • Transparency and participation in politics and governance, sousveillance, open data and its applications
  • Physical hacking, making and fabbing, lockpicking, electronics and hardwarde design, artistic expression
  • Painting it green, concepts for reducing the ecological footprint our urban lifestyle has on the planet
  • Automation, labor market, terms of employment and future chances

As mentioned before, the above list is meant as an inspiration, and not a restriction. It is neither exhaustive nor complete.
All talk submissions will be reviewed and a benevolent selection of talks will try to represent the broadest possible spectrum to the best of our abilities.

Last chance to get your pre-ordered (and paid) Congress wear

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

During 29C3 pre-order season we saw over a thousand people buying shirts and hoodies online. But not everyone picked up their stuff during Congress, that’s why we have around hundred pieces of cloth that belongs to one of you.

But we would love to see you proudly walking around in our Congress cloth and not have them rot away in our backyard. So please, check your inbox for preorder-receipts you have not redeemed yet and come and get your stuff.

There will be an hand-out event on Saturday, February, 23th in CCCB around 4pm in Berlin [1]. If you cannot make it there, please send an email to 29c3-presale@cccv.de, and we will try to arrange something.

Details about the clothes sale

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

If you have pre-ordered a t-shirt, hoodie, or zipper, you can pick it up at the counter next to the cash desk during day 0 (aka today, December 26th, once the cash desks open) or day 1 (aka tomorrow, December 27th) only!

If you did not pre-order any clothes, you have the chance to buy some from day 2 onwards.
From the start on, we will also sell clothes from past events. Also, we have a lot of 29C3 posters left which are given out for a donation in an amount of your choice.

29C3 Party Mode

Sunday, December 16th, 2012

After PartyWe already told you about talks, workshops and assemblies at 29C3, but it seems we didn’t talk about parties by now. So it’s about time to do so.

On location we will have two main spots. There will be a tent in front of CCH with DJs and live sets. Music will be on from 4 pm to 6 am every day. Since smoking won’t be allowed at all inside CCH the tent will also be a place where people are allowed to ruin their health. The second spot will be a chillout area at top level of CCH which we call Ten Forward. This one will have relaxed sounds – both, electronic and accoustic sets.

At 30th of December right after the last talk we will have an After Party at a very cool spot called Universum Alltona, starting at 8 pm. Join your fellow raving hackers and enjoy some wicked sets from Dr. Motte, Fannie Mae & Carsten Plug, Neal White and David & Klein. There will be food, drinks and also an ambient floor. People with a 4-day-pass will get free entry. The Universum can be found at Amalia-Rodrigues-Weg 6, S-Bahn station Diebsteich just 3 stops away into direction Elbgaustraße. As a goody we will also offer an old American school bus as a convenient shuttle between CCH and Universum from 7:30 to 12 pm for free.

For people heading to Berlin right after 29C3 our friends at c-base are also going to have a party as usual.

Low-cost sleeping at 29C3: The Gym

Friday, December 14th, 2012

We recommend getting a place to sleep during the congress early. There are various possibilities. If you can afford it, getting a hotel room is probably the best, with a real bed and a real shower. If you are lucky enough to have friends in Hamburg you can bother between Christmas and New Year, getting a couch to crash on may also be neat. Now, what if you don’t happen to have these options? Then the gym is for you.

The gym is only one railway station away from the congress venue. Staying there will cost you 5 Euro per night. You can buy tickets at the entrance of the CCH where you also buy other tickets. And please buy them there before you head for the gym: Showing up at the gym without a valid ticket won’t get you a place to sleep. As usual you can buy tickets only just for the next night. The gym is open from December 26th from around 6pm and you must checked out before noon on December, 30th, the latest. Bring your own sleeping bags and mats and enjoy showers there with the other guests, just like in school after P.E. — fun!

We want to stress that the gym is one of the parts that make the congress different from a “normal, commercial” conference. The 5 Euro we take will not cover our costs. Economically, this doesn’t make sense. However, we understand that a relevant part of our audience fall into the “young, gifted, and penniless” category and the congress wouldn’t be the same if we wouldn’t offer something for them.

Update: The gym will open until 31st of Dezember, *not* 30th.

Yes, We Will Sell Some Tickets In Hamburg

Friday, December 14th, 2012

Quite some people asked, whether there will be Congress tickets for sale at 29C3 once they get there.

Generally the answer is “Yes, you will be able to buy tickets at our cash desks”.

To answer that question more precisely: We will have about 1000 4-day tickets for sale in Hamburg. First come, first serve. So, you probably don’t need to worry, but if you want to be sure to get a ticket, be there early.

Moreover, we’ll sell day tickets as well. But same here – there’s a limit of 1000 per day, too.
