May 7th: Camp 2011 – Field Day

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

We invite everybody to join us for a public visit to the location of the Chaos Communication Camp 2011 at Luftfahrtmuseum Finowfurt [1]. Everybody who wants to do a project, put up a really big tent, build a village or do anything special in one way or the other should come.

The visit takes places at Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at 14:00h CEST. We will spend around two to three hours at the site depending on interest. Be careful to be on time as we won’t explain things twice.

If you plan to come, please drop your name in the wiki [2]. There you will also find driving instructions, aerial photographs and maps of the area and some of our ideas how to organize the campsite.

Camp 2011 Needs Your Help

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Preparations for this year’s Chaos Communication Camp have started.

If you don’t know about the Camp in general have a look at the 2007, 2003, and 1999 web sites. You should also watch these great videos in order to get a first impression: Camp 2007 and Camp 2003

Actually, we’ve been working on Chaos Communication Camp 2011 – Project Flow Control – for quite some time, but finally there is a web site now. Since we’re a bit late already, we really need your support.

First and foremost we need your help in distributing the Call for Participation and the Call for a Space Program of the Hacker Scene.

If you’d like to give a lecture or organize a workshop on topics dealing with space exploration, technology, ethics, science, security, art, philosophy, politics, culture or cooking make a submission to our submission system!

Moreover, we need help with designing web and print publications, t-shirts and many other things. You may notice that our current web site is not that beautiful. For that reason we’ve also published a Call for Design. If you’re a capable graphics designer or happen to know someone who is and might be crazy enough to spend days, only receiving fame and glory in return, please read it and contact us!

Camp 2011 will happen

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

After receiving some concerned inquiries we want to state again:

Yes, the Chaos Communication Camp 2011 will take place. It will be from August 10th thru August 14th 2011 in Finowfurt near Berlin. There will be enough tickets for everybody. You may start your travel preparations by booking flights, applying for visas, charging your transcontinental teleporter’s capacitors, etc. We will be there.

Chaos Communication Camp 2011

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

We found a date and we found a place:

10|11|12|13|14th August 2011
at Finowfurt (near Berlin), Germany

Since 1999 the Chaos Communication Camp has taken place every four years – and we will keep this rhythm. It is an international, five-day open-air event for hackers and associated life-forms. The venue is the same as in 2007, so some of you might know it already.

If you don’t have a clue about the Chaos Communication Camp, you might probably want to watch these videos:

Some history of the Camp is also available:

More information will show up in the next months, but presumably not before 27C3 in December.

Be a part of the Chaos Communication Camp 2011! Only 365 days left!

Chaos Communication Camp 2007 – The movie

Monday, January 14th, 2008

The official camp documentation movie documentation is now released at chaosradio.ccc.de. Enjoy!

Update: As the server is pretty busy you might want to use BitTorrent with this torrent file to get the movie quicker.

David Chaum at the Camp

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

We are excited to announce that Dr. David Chaum, cryptographer and founder of DigiCash, accepted our invitation to come to the Camp.

He will describe his ideas for enabling voters to verify their votes, using simple cryptographic techniques to ensure election integrity. David Chaum developed the system, Scantegrity, in open source and will introduce it in a talk on Saturday at 6.30 pm in Shelter Foo.

Fun at the museum

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Just a reminder: Today is the last chance to take a flight with the antonow bi-plane above the camp – they start 14:00 and continue as long as there are new customers. See the wiki page for further information.

The museum will do a guided tour within the museum today. Meet at 19:00 at the statue next to the snack bar – the tour will be held in german, but we are currently trying to get a translator.

Please give feedback on the talks you attended

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

We have now enabled the feedback system and kindly ask you to provide feedback on those talks that you attended.

How? It’s really simple: Locate the event in our online schedule (“Fahrplan”) at http://events.ccc.de/camp/2007/Fahrplan/ and then on the detail page for each event there is a “Give Feedback” link. Simply follow that link and fill out the form, then submit the form.

This information is hugely important and helpful both for the speaker in order to improve his or her style of presentation and to the organisators for future events!

Hacker Ethics Hotline

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

We don’t want the term hacker to have such a negative connotation, right? Since the first hacks are already announced ask yourself before pressing ENTER:

What happens if I 0wn that box now? Is it ethically justifiable to do this or that? And finally, one of the most important questions of hacking ethics is: How much stress will happen if things go wrong?

And with power comes responsibility. So, think about the most efficient way to handle an interesting piece of information. The Hacker Ethics Hotline offers fast and anonymous counseling on this and related topics.
Simply dial 1042 on the DECT phone next to you and make an appointment (real life, chat or phone). The Hacker Ethics Hotline is run by FX of Phenoelit, Ron, 46halbe and Frank Rieger.

Network Update

Monday, August 6th, 2007

The network is all coming together now! We’ve worked hard over the past week to get top-notch connectivity to all corners of our huge campsite. Not everything is finished yet but it’s quickly getting there. The fibers are all in place, the core router is up and running and it’s already distributing the 10GE fiber backbone to various places at the site. Access switches will be placed inside the Datenklos today and tomorrow, so that everybody will be able to plug in soon.

Datenklo

Unfortunately we will not have as much outbound bandwidth available as we had during some previous events. Due to the small capacities of all the providers in the area of Finowfurt we only have 300 Mbps. Please use the available bandwidth wisely. We will have two big file servers (about 14TB each) in our network to share the stuff you brought from home with everybody locally. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we are doing all we can to provide you with the best possible network at the site.
