Last Minute 26c3 Schedule Change

Christian Eichelmann from the Wolpertinger project will be speaking in Saal 3 starting at 11:30.

It is a distributed portscanner, which actually doesn’t do anything else than scan (tcp-)ports. But it is fast. Really fast. So fast you can scan Class-B networks before you have to retire. And it is available from here. The output lands in a database (SQLite) you can do with that what you want. It runs on linux and is open source.

The IBM AS/400 Talk in Saal 3 has been cancelled. There are no other reported schedule changes, but be sure to check back here on events.ccc.de, follow @26c3 and @chaosupdates on Twitter.

I just want to explain why the AS/400 talk didn’t take place: “Booting” (it’s called IPL, Initial Program Load, actually) an AS/400 takes quite some time, roughly 45min or so. For a normal boot.

Unfortunately I placed by AS/400 quite, er, not that ideal in the Hackcenter and someone pulled the power cord, so it didn’t shut down really well. I wanted to re-IPL it this morning but it just took too much time for the “fsck” (it’s not a real fsck, it checks the database integrity, object tables, caches and so on) to finish so I wouldn’t have had anything to show to you.

As my talk was (also) about showing you how the system looks and feels like and how one uses it holding it without actually having anything to show seemed rather pointless so I made the slot free for another speaker. I prefer to not hold a talk instead of holding a really boring talk…

Sorry to all who got up in the middle of the night to see it, but the Easterhegg in Munich is coming and I hope I can hold my talk there. :-)

    Sebastian

Oh man, sorry for that. We feared that someone would think that we crashed your AS/400 by scanning it in order to have a slot for christian to give his talk.

Also big thanks for the organizers for giving us the slot and announcing it online on such short notice – we were just there to see the AS/400-talk and didn’t even have time to prepare the wolperine.

Let’s hope all works out well on Easterhegg.

(AS/400 talk at Easterhegg) We can’t wait. :-) Any chance of that being recorded for those of us who can’t make it?

  4. Derek says:

I hope the AS/400 talk at the Easterhegg will be recorded for those of us who can’t make it. :-)

Any word on what’s happened to the JTAG reverse engineering talk? It wasn’t on the no stream/no recording list and there was no AS/400 bootstrapping/IPL involved, yet it’s not in the video archive…

    in the meantime…
did you prepare any slides that you could share with the community ?
in case the talk will take place at the easterhegg, i’ll come and hear it.
by the way, do you have some knowledge about the S/390 that is worth sharing ? i talked to quite a lot of people who missed the AS/400 talk as much as me, and all said, the big brother, S/390 would be at least as interesting…
